We Are Green

Corporate environmental responsibility is a hallmark of Empathia

We believe that business doesn’t have to prosper at the expense of the environment.  In fact, reducing our ecological footprint has been part of our business plan since 2000, when we created the first Empathia Earth Team, a group charged with integrating resource conservation with everyday business practices.  While the Earth Team is still tasked with coordinating these efforts, conservation has become ingrained in our corporate culture, and every employee takes pride in doing their part to make choices that not only benefit our organization, but the environment too.

A few of the conservation efforts that we have coordinated as part of our corporate environmental responsibility efforts:

  • Set up of multiple locations within our offices for separating and collecting aluminum, steel, plastic, glass and paper recycling
  • Establishment of a recycling area within our office for unwanted computer equipment, cell phones, CDs/DVDs, VHS tapes, jewel cases, etc., and coordination with organizations who are certified as environmentally responsible recyclers
  • Collection of athletic shoes for contribution to Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe program
  • Participation in the Adopt-A-Highway program through Wisconsin’s Department of Transportation
  • Provision of staff education on the topic of  “Recycling, Reduction & Reuse in the Business Environment”
  • Completion of a waste audit by WasteCap Wisconsin
  • Staff giveaways of reusable canvas tote bags, bamboo kitchen utensils, tree saplings, wildflower seeds and compact fluorescent lightbulbs
  • Support of Fair Trade initiatives by only purchasing and serving fair trade coffee
  • Collection and recycling of alkaline batteries
